Yasiin Bey [Mos Def] Introduces Harun -No.7-

Yasiin Bey AKA Mos Def introduces Harun -No.7-
Yasiin Bey [Mos Def] has recently started a design collaborative with some individuals, called Fellowship Mission. The goals of the collective are not exactly clear yet, but Fellowship Mission is supposed to be their new creative outlet, mostly for things that happen outside of music. The first product to come out of it is the Harun -No.7-  fragrance that Mr. Bey worked on with his good friend Chace Infinite.
The oils are bottled in Brooklyn, NY the cultural epicenter of America’s greatest city and contain Imported Attar from the Kamauj Uttar Padesh region of India. Harun -no. 7- is 100% natural and is free of alcohol and chemicals. In the tradition of the original oils (attar) Harun -No.7- can be used a a fragrance for the body. or burned in the home.
Union [Obviously] is among the very first to carry the fragrance.

Below is a video from a trip by Yasiin Bey and Chris Gibbs [and Chris's Wife] from Union to Paris. Yasiin & Chris Speak about Fellowship Misson.

Muslims Belief about Jesus/Respecting Christmas

Christmas is an annual Christian religious holiday commemorating the birth of Prophet Jesus [Peace be upon him]. For many Muslims who even do not celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad [peace be upon him], it becomes an issue of what stand they should take [Especially when One is Muslim and has A Lot of Christian Family Members].

There have been a number of legitimate criticisms of the holiday from Muslims and non-Muslims based on theological and cultural considerations [Seeing Jesus wasn't born on this day in actuality]. However, this cannot be used to disregard the holiday as merely an exercise in ancient pagan practices. Muslims have to remember that for practicing Christians, Christmas really is about Jesus [No Matter How We View Him, as Muslims... for them it IS Religious and we HAVE to show a level of respect].

Prophet Muhammad [Peace be upon him], was so accommodating of Christians that according to the two earliest Islamic historians, Ibne Saad and Ibn Hisham, the Prophet even allowed a delegation of 60 Byzantine Christians from Najran in Yemen to worship in his own Masjid [Mosque] in Madinah. Lead by their bishop [Usquf], they had come to discuss a number of issues with him. When time of their prayer came, they asked the Prophet's permission to perform this in the mosque. He answered, "conduct your service here in the mosque. It is a place consecrated to God."

Allah [God] expects us to stay away from mocking the religious beliefs of others, no matter how much we disagree with them. He says in the Quran: "And insult not those whom they [disbelievers] worship besides Allah, lest they insult God wrongfully without knowledge. Thus We have made fair-seeming to each people its own doings; then to their Lord is their return and He shall then inform them of all that they used to do" [Quran, 6:108].

We also have to remember that even if for many nominal Christians, the celebration is not really about participating in religious traditions, Christmas is a time for families to get together [Gifts are given and hearts are softened]. In a number of cases it is the only time of year families get together, unfortunately the family unit is becoming weaker and weaker and this is the perfect time to show the mannerisms of Muslims and show our love for the Prophet Jesus, [I Myself See most of my family and friends during this time].

Christmas is a great time to relate to our neighbors as well... We should not forget though, that "relating" does not mean "preaching". Dawah [making an invitation] cannot be made in a rude manner. Allah says in the Quran: "Invite [all] to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful advice, and reason with them by ways that are the best and most gracious: because your Lord knows best, [those] who have strayed from His Path, and those who receive guidance " [Quran, 16:125].

In particular, when dealing with Jews and Christians, Allah says: "Do not argue with the People of the Book unless it is in the politest manner, except for those of them who do wrong. Say: 'We believe in what has been sent down to us and what has been sent down to you. Our God and your God is [the same] One, and we are Muslims before Him" [Quran, 29:46].

This may not be an occasion to emphasis the differences as much as the commonality of our beliefs, unless someone is really asking you about them.

A starting point for a discussion about Christmas could be the Islamic belief in all Books revealed by Allah and all Prophets sent by Him. In this discussion, special emphasis could be made on Prophet Jesus.
Non-Muslims are often surprised to discover that Muslims also believe in this noble Prophet [Jesus] and his great mother Mary (peace be upon her).

Remember that respect does not mean compromise. I am NOT posting this, asking you to compromise anything as Muslims. We have freedom of religion given by God to believe in what we believe in. But in a world where conflict is increasing, a Muslim should be a bridge- builder, peacemaker and an example of great character.
It was due to the Muslim practice of Islamic ideals of respect and tolerance that the key of the holiest Christian Shrine in Jerusalem, the church of the Holy Sepulcher, remains entrusted with a Muslim family [till this day], as it has been for over 1400 years.

What Do Muslims Believe about Jesus?

Muslims respect and revere Jesus [Peace be upon him).  We consider him one of the greatest of God’s messengers to mankind.  The Quran confirms his virgin birth, and a chapter of the Quran is entitled ‘Maryam’ (Mary).  The Quran describes the birth of Jesus as follows:

[Remember] when the angels said, “O Mary, God gives you good news of a word from Him [God], whose name is the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, revered in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (to God).  He will speak to the people from his cradle and as a man, and he is of the righteous.” She said, “My Lord, how can I have a child when no mortal has touched me?” He said, “So (it will be).  God creates what He wills.  If He decrees a thing, He says to it only, ‘Be!’ and it is.”  [Quran, 3:45-47]

Jesus was born miraculously by the command of God, the same command that had brought Adam into being with neither a father nor a mother.  Allah has said:

The case of Jesus with God is like the case of Adam.  He created him from dust, and then He said to him, “Be!” and he came into being. [Quran, 3:59]

During his prophetic mission, Jesus performed many miracles.  Allah tells us that Jesus said:

“I have come to you with a sign from your Lord.  I make for you the shape of a bird out of clay, I breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by God’s permission.  I heal the blind from birth and the leper.  And I bring the dead to life by God’s permission.  And I tell you what you eat and what you store in your houses....” [Quran, 3:49]

Muslims believe that Jesus was NOT crucified.  It was the plan of Jesus’ enemies to crucify him, but God saved him and raised him up to Him.  And the likeness of Jesus was put over another man.  Jesus’ enemies took this man and crucified him, thinking that he was Jesus.  Allah has said:

...They said, “We killed the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of God.” They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but the likeness of him was put on another man [and they killed that man]... [Quran, 4:157]

Neither Muhammad [Peace be upon him]  nor Jesus [Peace be Upon him] came to change the basic doctrine of the belief in one God, brought by earlier prophets, but rather to confirm and renew it.
Islam requires Muslims to respect the faith of others
We should never ridicule the religious beliefs of others, no matter how much we disagree with them.

Allah [God] says in the Quran: And insult not those whom they worship besides God, lest they insult God wrongfully without knowledge. Thus We have made fair-seeming to each people its own doings; then to their Lord is their return and He shall then inform them of all that they used to do”.  [Quran, 6:10]

These are ideas.

I could say that they just came to me, but it would be more accurate to say that I went to them.

Ideas - and new connections between ideas - lead you away from commonly held perceptions of reality.

Ideas lead you out here.

Ideas lead you into the darkness.

Mos Def Gets Named One Of The World's Most Influential Muslims

There are over 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, and "we" make up around 23% of the world population. The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center has compiled their third annual list of the 500 most influential people out of this enormous population.

Among the company of royalty and multi-billionaires, Mos Def (now going by Yasiin Bey) has made this year's list of the most influential Muslims in the world. Here's how his entry reads:
Mos Def (born Dante Terrell Smith) is a hip-hop artist who has recently become more popular for his acting career where he received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. He is noted for his stance against the misinterpretation of the Qur’an.
The only other two Americans to make the list under the category of "Celebrities & Sports Stars" are Muhammed Ali and Kareem Abdul-Jabar.

Previously I posted that the UNKNWN concept store by LeBron James will be opening. I was told that the store will actually be opening its doors on December 16th, 2011. Also the Grand Opening will unveil special collaborative products, private label offerings and an exclusive appearance by Co-Founder LeBron James.

Also the first step of the UNKNWN website was launched, which reveals the brand list of the new store. In terms of clothing you will find in there A.P.C., Jeremy Scott, 10.Deep, Crooks & Castles, Band of Outsiders, Mark McNairy, Nike NSW, Wings & Horns, Comme des Garcons PLAY, Undefeated, Stussy, Original Fake, BBC/Ice Cream, The Hundreds and many more. The shoe brand line-up includes Common Projects, Nike, Jordan, Clae, Native, Sperry Top-Sider, Vans Vault, Converse and others. And in terms of accessories the store will carry Kidrobot, Ambush, G-Shock, SUPER, Lexdray, Beats by Dre, Just Don It, Karen Walker, Illesteva and more.

The brand line-up looks good – a nice mix of streetwear and high end fashion, just like most expected it. For now there are not too many surprise in here. The collaborations and private label offerings will probably be the most interesting.

Apple Store: Grand Central Station Opening

apple store grand central station opening 0 Apple Store Grand Central Station Opening
In case you thought you ever saw a lot of people waiting for a store to open, check out what went down today when Apple opened the doors to its new flagship store in New York inside Grand Central Station. Eager customers started lining up early in the morning for the opening and Apple was of course prepared, as you can see with the small army of employees that you see in their red t-shirts on the images. The store is not only one of the biggest Apple retail stores to date, but certainly an impressive one in terms of location.
“As NYC’s gateway to Connecticut, Grand Central is typically incredibly crowded during rush hour, but the enormous sunlight-filled main hall was packed to the brim today with spectators — eager customers queued up in a hallway out of view, beginning early this morning. The store itself is huge, occupying the entire east balcony and several side rooms, with a large genius bar, training area and accessory alcove at either side.”

XXL Magazine reviews Lupe Fiasco's "Friend of the People"

Adam over at XXL Mag reviewed Lupe's Friend of the People mixtape... below:

Lupe Fiasco is at his finest when he’s not artistically constrained, instead free to A&R his own project and entirely control its direction. For his most recent Atlantic Records release, this was tough. Many said his March 2011’s purgatory escaping Lasers fell short in this respect—pop beats and R&B hooks made for a major-label touch. With his Thanksgiving Day mixtape, Friend of the People, Lupe offers no such mainstream indulgence; this is Lupe at his uninhibited best.

The relatively constant thread woven throughout the release, a follow up to 2009’s Thanksgiving Day drop Enemy of the State, is purported in its title: Lupe is standing with the everyman, favoring Occupation over opulence. The tape opens with an excerpt from a speech by late progressive professor and author Howard Zinn, where he wonders, “Why do we have to be a military superpower? Why can’t we be a humanitarian superpower? Instead of sending planes for bombs Why don’t we send planes for food and medicine?” Lupe arrives on the next track, “Lupe Back,” and follows Zinn’s lead with a sharp critique of the state of the industry, where he encourages rappers to form a union and wags his lyrical finger at 360 record deals, radio, and fires at those who “Spit a lot of meh over jams of the year.”

10 Ways To Project Positivity

It’s a fact of life: Colleagues, friends and women will consistently gravitate toward positive people. Consequently, if you want to get ahead in life, you have to find ways to project positivity. At work, you want to be the kind of guy who posits solutions, not the kind of guy who predicts problems. In the social game, you want to be the fun guy, the happy guy, the calm, cool and hilarious guy. Brooding only works for vampires.

Look, I understand that not everything is sunshine and cupcakes. Sometimes things suck. You’ll encounter bad ideas and annoying people. You’ll have bad days. I'm not talking about ignoring the bad things in life. I'm simply suggesting you try to focus on the good things. I maintain that you’re almost always better off emphasizing the positive than dwelling on the negative.
If you agree, check out my top 10 ways to project positivity.
Project Positivity

No.10 Exercise

Working out is the first tip on my list of the top 10 ways to project positivity. Exercise has numerous benefits. First of all, you’ll look better. If you’re fit and healthy, you have an edge on the competition at work and on the social scene. Plus, working out just makes you feel good and new research shows that it allows you to better handle stressful situations. Lastly, you’ll have more energy to attack each day and each night out.

No.9 Groom

Grooming is another must on my list of the top 10 ways to project positivity. A poor appearance and an abundance of grooming mistakes can be off-putting. When you don’t take care of your skin, your hair and your smell, people notice -- in a bad way. So clean yourself up. Looking put-together inspires others to have confidence in you. People are more likely to take to you if you don’t look like a "caveman" with greasy hair.
Project Positivity

No.8 Avoid depressing topics & personal issues

When talking to someone, you should systematically avoid depressing topics and uncomfortable personal issues. Consistently try to steer conversation toward happy subject matter. Don’t be the guy around the office who always wants to talk about the war effort or the economy. Likewise, when you first meet a woman, don’t talk about serial killers, tsunamis or your mother’s battle with Cancer. Some subjects are just too serious for introductory conversations.
Project Positivity

No.7 Don't slouch

Some of my top 10 ways to project positivity are verbal, some are intellectual and others are just physical. For instance, standing up straight is a great way to project positivity. The guy who slouches appears beaten and subdued, and you’re not that guy. So, keep posture on the brain with shoulders back and chin up.
Project Positivity

No.6 Say "yes"

Perhaps the best way to project positivity is to simply say “yes.” Habituate yourself to positivity by responding in the affirmative more often. Whether it’s a request to take on extra responsibility at work or a playful dare from a group of attractive women, try to say “yes” as often as humanly possible. Eventually, your positive attitude will become second nature.
Project Positivity

No.5 Don't complain

Complainers are downers, pure and simple. When talking to people, especially a prospective love interest, don’t bitch and whine. Don’t talk about the things that make you mad. Don’t sulk; it makes you look like you're in a rut.
Project Positivity

No.4 Laugh

You might think it’s difficult to make yourself laugh, but that’s not entirely true. The key is to maintain a certain state of mind. When you’re in a good mood, you’ll be more willing to tell jokes and laugh at other people’s jokes. You’ll trade barbs, tease your friends and colleagues, and generally keep everyone in a good mood. Ready yourself for laughter by taking a minute to enjoy your favorite things. Read your favorite blog every morning or check out the most hilarious viral video you can find. They’ll prepare you for an upbeat day.
Project Positivity

No.3 Be curious & engaged

Dismissive and disinterested people do not project positivity. Even though it might be difficult at times, try to remain curious and engaged as much as possible. You might start by simply asking more questions than you usually do. Even when someone says something you don’t immediately find interesting, ask a follow-up question. They’ll appreciate the attention.
Project Positivity

No.2 Be solution-oriented

Whenever you encounter an idea you don’t like or a lukewarm response from a group of attractive women, your first instinct should be to find a solution. How can you make that bad idea better? How can you make the flawed strategy more effective? How can you improve your rate of success with women? If your first impulse is to solve problems, rather than to dwell on them, you’ll go far.
Project Positivity

No.1 Smile

Smiling is perhaps the simplest way to project positivity. Think about it: You smile when you’re happy, but with a little work, you can train yourself to feel happy when you smile as well. A smile shows people you’re engaged, enthusiastic and open. Smiling is also contagious. When you smile at others, they’ll find it awfully hard not to respond in kind.
