The Newest Hottest Spike Lee Joint [KickStarter]

Spike Lee is "doin the different thing" and going the Kickstarter route with the hope of raising $1.25m for his new feature film that will be about blood. Yes..., blood.

As human beings, we have many addictions: drugs, alcohol, power, sex.

This film is about the addiction to blood.

Why Kickstarter? Spike Lee explains: I have a different vision of what Cinema can be, a different vision of what some under-served Audiences might want to see. That is why I am here on KICKSTARTER, to raise the Funds for The New Spike Lee Joint, to get this BAD BOY financed. Nothing in Life is Free and if you want something you got to pay for it. If you have liked any of my Films in the past, this is the price it costs to see another one (which can be less than the cost of one Movie Ticket). We feel the different levels on contributions make it affordable for everyone to GET DOWN FOR THE CAUSE.

For more details check out the Kickstarter campaign here, and a video about the project below.

C'mon, you get The Opportunity to Say you Helped Back a SPIKE LEE Joint.... Get to it !

I Backed This Joint..., Have You ???

Continuation

Begin to think from now if you haven't already started how you will carry forth with everything that you've learned about yourself, the world around you, the world within you, and the world beyond this world. Make a firm intention from now to not let go so easily. Solicit the help of friends and loved ones and express your goals and objectives explicitly so that you have something tangible to be accountable towards. And at the very least just try your best. You shouldn't expect anything other than that because the best is what you deserve, including from yourself.

Purifying Your Heart in Ramadhan

Ramadhan is about self-recognition and purifying one's heart. It's about not just fighting against but defeating the ego and moving away from a self-centered worldview towards one that is beyond one's self in aspiration of becoming God-centric. When the advice comes, even if poorly given, try to focus more on what is being said rather than how it is being said or who is saying it. At the end of the assessment you'll either fine that their point of view is valid or you'll be more reinforced in your point of view because it is valid -- in both there is benefit. But if we rely solely on ourselves to determine where we can improve, the growth will hardly come and our movement to obtaining our full potential will be that much harder of a process.

Excerpt from Khalid L "Ramadan Reflection".

Richness Through Reflection

Periods of reflection become integral to one's personal development. Without them, we wouldn't really grow as best as we could. Our lives would be mechanical and monotonous. We would do, but not know why we were doing or how deeper benefit could be attained from doing a little differently.

The month of Ramadhan consists of 30 days of fasting. Each of those days serves uniquely as a potential source of benefit, and none should be undermined in its respective value.

Many of us treat our spiritual retreats as escapes from reality, rather than means of enhancing our understanding of it. Use each day as best as you can, but find moments within it to reflect on how the day in its entirety, both while the sun is up and down, is going.

"Reflection is the lamp of the heart. If it departs, the heart will have no light." ~ Imam Al-Haddad

In these first days it might take some time to get used to not eating or drinking for so many hours. If that is the case, utilize the nights when you return to your homes to simply spend some moments in reflecting on how the day went, Ramadhan is still here, and the ability to understand how I am using it is front of me. I just have to be willing to seize it.

Ask yourself if the day that was just spent brought benefit to anyone, including yourself. If you were honest and trustworthy. If you kept every promise and honored all responsibility. If you smiled, were patient, and generous in every sense of the word. Try to see if you owe anyone an expression of gratitude or thanks, or if there is anyone that you potentially owe an apology. What ideas and thoughts preoccupied your mind for the most part? Even without consuming food or drink, how much time was spent in feeding your self versus feeding your soul or your heart? Is there real, substantive satisfaction present, or is short-lived complacency that is rendering no real contentment, just the facade of it?

"True richness is not having an abundance of things from the earth, but true richness is having a richness of the soul.
" ~ The Prophet Muhammad

The purpose of the reflection should be outlined from the onset. It should not be a process that is self-deprecating, but rather one that is empowering. I understand who I am now in hopes of moving towards everything that I can potentially be, not so that it leaves me motionless.

The key part then is to do something with the information you have attained from this reflection. Knowledge is beneficial only when acted upon. Take what you learn of yourself and the world around you from the day you just lived and feed it into how you will live the next day that you are blessed to have in front of you. Gradual growth is still growth and every opportunity to experience it should be taken advantage of.

Only 25 or 26 days left -- make each part of every one count.

Yasiin Bey [Mos Def] Tries and Fails to Undergo Gitmo-Style Force-Feeding [Video]

More than 100 of the 166 detainees being held at Guantánamo are currently participating in a hunger strike that began back in February. More than 40 of those prisoners are being force-fed, according to the latest word from the U.S. Navy. What does that force-feeding look like? Yasiin Bey—the actor, activist, and rapper better known as Mos Def—teamed up with human rights group Reprieve to show us.
What followed is difficult to watch, but then again it's supposed to be.

It's worth pointing out the obvious here: The video is a transparent work of advocacy. So when Yasiin begs for the exercise to be called off before it's finished, there is little doubt that at least some degree of acting is going on. Then again, Yasiin's cries are quickly answered, a luxury not afforded to those Gitmo detainees who refuse to give up their peaceful protest.

According to Reprieve, the feeding measures used on Yasiin followed the standard operating procedure used by the government, a process that was detailed in official documents leaked earlier this year. The government contends that process is a humane way to keep the detainees from starving to death. Attorneys for those being force fed, however, see things otherwise. In a legal filing last week in advance of today's start of Ramadhan, the lawyers claimed that the government was prepping to turn the camp into a "force-feeding factory" during the holy month of Ramadhan.

Ramadhan... What is it ?

During the blessed month of Ramadhan [AKA Ramadan], Muslims all over the world abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs during the daylight hours. As a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God, and practice self-sacrifice, Ramadhan is much more than just not eating and drinking.

Muslims are called upon to use this month to re-evaluate their lives in light of Islamic guidance. We are to make peace with those who have wronged us, strengthen ties with family and friends, do away with bad habits -- essentially to clean up our lives, our thoughts, and our feelings. The Arabic word for "fasting" (saum) literally means "to refrain" - and it means not only refraining from food and drink, but from evil actions, thoughts, and words.

During Ramadan, every part of the body must be restrained. The tongue must be restrained from backbiting and gossip. The eyes must restrain themselves from looking at unlawful things. The hand must not touch or take anything that does not belong to it. The ears must refrain from listening to idle talk or obscene words. The feet must refrain from going to sinful places.

In such a way, every part of the body observes the fast.

Therefore, fasting is not merely physical, but is rather the total commitment of the individuals body and soul to the spirit of the fast. Ramadan is a time to practice self-restraint; a time to cleanse the body and soul from impurities and re-focus one's self on the worship of Allah !

Work Hard !

I learned that the only way you are goin to get anywhere in life is to work hard at it.

Whether you're an artist, a musician, a writer, an athlete, or a businessman, there is no getting around it. If you do, you'll win... if you don't, you won't.
